Dilley’s
School gymnasium maple court with painted center logo and game lines

The annual recoat program

A gym floor takes a season of sneakers, and the finish is what protects the wood. Dilley Sport Floors keeps school and club courts playable with yearly screen-and-recoat work: lines fresh, surface true, on a schedule that respects your calendar.

Serving schools, universities, and health clubs across CT, NY, NJ, and MA

Why an annual recoat

The finish is the floor's armor

Every season of play wears the protective coat. Recoating each year restores it before the maple takes that damage. Damage at the wood level is what only a full refinish answers.

The economics run one way

A yearly recoat costs a fraction of a full refinish. Floors kept on the cycle need the big reset less often. Skipping years is how floors end up costing twice.

Lines stay legal and legible

Game lines get repainted into the recoat: NJSIAA, NCAA, and NBA layouts, keys and boundaries crisp, center logos sharp.

Safety stays real

A worn floor is a slippery, uneven floor. Recoating keeps traction and a true surface, which is the part athletes feel every night.

How the program runs

Fall to summer, one cycle, and your floor never surprises you. One floor, one plan.

  1. 1

    Fall: the audit

We walk the floor, measure finish wear and board condition, and give you a written picture of where it stands. Free, and it comes with honest numbers.

  2. 2

Winter: the plan and the bid

You get a written proposal: recoat, or full refinish if the floor needs it, scheduled into your summer window with camps and events around it.

  3. 3

    Summer: the work

Screen and recoat with fresh game lines, or the full sand-refinish-reline when that’s the honest answer. Hand-painted artwork refreshed by hand.

  4. 4

    Season: playable

The floor takes the winter. Next fall, the audit comes around again and the cycle holds.

Recoat or refinish: the honest line

A recoat renews the finish on top of the wood. A full refinish takes the floor back to bare maple, relines every line and logo from scratch, and rebuilds the surface. The audit exists so the recommendation is based on your floor's actual wear, not on what there is to sell that year.

Floors kept on a yearly recoat cycle push the big reset years out. Floors that skip years usually need it early. The audit decides, not the sales pitch. Our full gym refinishing work →

Who we work for

Schools, universities, and health clubs across Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The work includes courts laid out to NJSIAA, NCAA, and NBA specifications, and hand-painted court artwork: mascots, logos, and lettering painted between the game lines by hand.

Athletic directors and facility managers: the audit is free, the proposal is written, and the schedule is built around your facility's calendar, not ours.

Gym floor questions

How often should a gym floor be recoated?

Once a year is the working answer for a school or club floor in normal service: a screen and recoat each summer restores the playing surface before the season does its damage. Floors in heavy multi-use gyms sometimes need attention sooner; floors in light-use facilities can stretch further. The audit tells you which yours is.

What is the difference between recoating and refinishing?

A recoat screens the existing finish and lays new coats over it: fast, economical, and it renews the playing surface without touching the wood. A full refinish sands to bare maple, relines every game line and logo, and rebuilds from scratch: the deep reset a floor needs every so often. We do both, and we’ll tell you honestly which your floor needs.

Can you repaint our game lines and logos?

Yes: game lines, keys, boundary lines, and center logos, painted by hand between finish coats. We lay out courts to NJSIAA, NCAA, and NBA specifications, and hand-painted school artwork is a specialty.

When can the work happen?

Summers, mostly, and we schedule around your camps and facility calendar the way we schedule around school calendars: it’s the same discipline as our residential work. Book the audit in fall or winter and the work lands in the summer window.
