Hardwood flooring
The heart of the shop for over 40 years. Solid and engineered hardwood from the mills we trust, sold to homeowners and contractors, installed by the same crew that refinishes it.
Showroom in Southbury or the mobile showroom at your house
Solid or engineered
Solid hardwood is one piece of wood, top to bottom. It can be sanded and refinished again and again across decades, which is why 100-year-old floors in this area are still in service.
Engineered hardwood carries a real-wood top layer over a stable core, so it holds its shape where solid would move: over basements, over concrete, below grade. It is real wood, finished and walked on the same way.
We sell and install both, and the honest recommendation depends on your rooms, not on what is easiest for us. Engineered hardwood, in detail →
The estimate settles it.
Unfinished or prefinished
Unfinished, finished on site
Boards go down raw, then we sand and finish the whole floor as one piece: no bevels between boards, and you pick the exact stain from samples on your own floor. See the sand and finish process →
Prefinished, done in days
Factory-applied finish is cured and tough before the boards ever arrive. Faster to live with, and the manufacturer warranty rides on it. Bruce and Mirage lead the rack here.
Pick your wood
Red and white oak, maple, hickory, walnut, and the exotics: every species reads differently in a room and takes stain its own way. White oak is the quiet favorite right now; hickory brings character nothing else has.
The species page walks through each one: how it looks, how hard it is, and how it takes the stain you are considering.

A floor is a 30-year decision made from a 2-inch sample. Come to the showroom on Old Waterbury Road and see full boards, or stay home and let the mobile showroom come to you: samples in the actual rooms, under your own light.
Whatever you choose, sampling happens on your floor before any finishing commit. That is how the shop has always done it.

Floors are what we do all day, every day. Two customers on our new-floor work:
“We recently installed random width pegged floors in our kitchen, they are stunning! This is the third job that Dilley has done and ALL have been outstanding, on time, neat, fair pricing & beautiful craftsmanship!”
“Very professional! Beautiful job laying my new hardwood floor. Installers showed up exactly on time and were able to finish a little earlier than expected.”
Questions we hear every week
What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?
Solid is one piece of wood the whole way through and can be sanded and refinished many times over the life of the floor. Engineered is a real-wood top layer over a stable plywood core, which makes it the right call over basements and concrete. We install and refinish both, and we’ll tell you honestly which fits your rooms.
Prefinished or unfinished, which should I buy?
Prefinished arrives with the factory finish on it: faster to install, done in a day or two. Unfinished gets installed raw, then sanded and finished on site, so the floor is sealed as one piece with no bevels and you choose the exact stain. We do both constantly; the honest answer depends on your schedule and your floors.
Which species do you carry?
The mills we carry make the full range: red and white oak, maple, hickory, walnut, and exotics through IndusParquet. Stock changes with the season, so call or visit the showroom for what is on the rack today. See the species page for how each one looks and takes a stain.
Do you sell to contractors?
Yes. Total hardwood sales include contractors, with bulk rates on larger orders. The same showroom, the same materials, the same pickup.
